Update on the status of Packy's Grob Jump at Bittersweet Field:
Our course designer created the grob - dug into the ground so that each half slopes downward to meet in the middle at the deepest point. From the Show Ring Ready website: “At its most difficult, the grob is a triple combination with one or two strides between each jump, depending on the length of the particular grob. It's more difficult at one stride because there's no room for error if the horse backs off on the way in. The course designer can also choose to only place a single jump in the center of the grob for the easiest set-up so that there's no striding to worry about. There is usually a dry ditch or liverpool located at the bottom of the grob, under the middle jump. This can make the horse back off the combination even more.” After the first rainfall we determined we needed to install a drain to make sure the jump wasn’t a pond after rain. The grass came in very well thanks to hydroseeding and fertilizing in September, and should be set for winter without erosion. The drain is also proving to be a worthy addition as the heavy rains have not pooled, keeping the base dry.
In the spring we plan to add a plaque and complete additional seeding that will be needed to ensure good footing. We are excited to see how Morgan Rowsell, our course designer, will set XC fences so it can be incorporated into the BN thru Prelim divisions for the June HT’s. We will dedicate the jump at the horse trials.
We have spent $5,490 to date on the construction of the grob and have $835 left in donations to purchase a plaque and to do the seeding and landscaping of jump. Thank you for your donation towards the jump in memory of Packy. We are still accepting donations on our website, but should have enough to cover the remaining expenses.
We will update you again and thank you for your donation.
